Today is the Day of Humor and while various European countries are still disputing the origin of this day, Bulgaria has a special museum dedicated to humor and satire. It is located in the town of Gabrovo and it celebrates its anniversary on April 1.
For five decades the purpose of the House of Humor and Satire has been collecting and preserving samples of humorous and satirical creativity. It created a specialized library for humorous and satirical publications and built a rich database with contacts of thousands of artists and institutes around the world working in the field of humor. Its motto, coined by the famous Bulgarian satirist Radoy Ralin, also remains intact to this day: "The world has survived because it laughed."
The anniversary program includes the opening of a new exhibition on the topic of "How Gabrovo became the capital of humor", a lecture by caricaturist Chavdar Nikolov, dedicated to "Freedom to laugh at", followed by an exhibition of political caricatures.
