Kukeri festival in village of Turia

The kukeri festival “Old men in Turia” has made a comeback after a two-year pause because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival demonstrates the cultural heritage connected with masquerade games in the lives of Bulgarians, and takes place in the village square of Turia, a village near Pavel Banya, as part of the “Chudomir days”. The programme features a procession by kukeri groups from all over the country, an award ceremony for all participants, and of course, lots of fun. “Old men in Turia” officially marks the end of the celebrations in Turia where the famed Bulgarian writer and artist Chudomir was born.
