“The defence and the sovereignty of Bulgaria can only take place via NATO,” ex-Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky stated in an interview with Nova TV. According to her, closing the sky over Ukraine and supplying it with Polish fighter aircraft would mean NATO going to war with Russia. As to the delivery of anti-aircraft systems, Nadezhda Neynsky stated that they could have a good effect.

Air defence systems are in the focus of attention during the visit by US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin who is visiting Eastern Europe. Talking to Nova TV, former Defence Minister Angel Naydenov stated that during the defence secretary’s visit to this country, discussions will probably centre on Bulgaria’s providing Ukraine with anti-missile and anti-aircraft defence systems. Other talking points will include the deployment of land force components on our territory. Angel Naydenov expressed the view that Bulgaria should request everything our NATO allies provide for in terms of defence. A similar position was expressed by General Anyu Angelov, Minister of Defence in the first GERB cabinet, who stated that Bulgaria and Romania have a joint defence plan and that it is high time we proceeded to the plan’s first stage.
