The European Commission expects Bulgaria to give back another 28.7 million euros provided by the EU budget for the construction of guest houses, said the representative of the EC Directorate of Agriculture Christina Borchmann at a hearing in the Committee on Budgetary Control of the European Parliament.

According to the Director General of the EU Anti-Fraud Office, Ville Itala, out of 746 guest houses that received more than 103 million euros of funding, 377 were inspected and none of them met the targets for diversifying economic activities at regional level and job creation. Representatives of the EPP called the case "horrifying". On behalf of the Socialists and Democrats, MEP Tsvetelina Penkova called for accountability and said that no charges had been raised.
