Sofia Metropolitan has been dropped from the Development Plan, but will be supported

The government will support the development of the Sofia subway. This is what the Prime Minister Kiril Petkov assured at a meeting with the mayor of the Slatina district of Sofia, Georgi Iliev. The two discussed the expansion of the subway through the Poduyane and Slatina neighborhoods. BGN 405 million for the construction will be provided by Sofia Municipality, the rest will come from the state budget, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov promised.

The enlargement was supposed to be part of the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, but has been dropped. The reason is that there is a risk that with minimal delays in construction it will not be completed by mid-2026, when all funds under the Plan must be paid.
