Probe launched into “golden passports” - citizenship by investment

The Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office is launching a probe into the so-called “golden passports” after the matter was referred to them by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the prosecutor’s office has announced.

Inspections, assigned to the State Agency for National Security, the Ministry of Justice, InvestBulgaria Agency and the Migration directorate of the Ministry of the Interior are to ascertains whether there have been any violations in each of the cases under scrutiny connected with Bulgarian citizenship acquired by investment by citizens of China and Russia. If violations are established a proposal will be submitted to the President for the revocation of the acquired Bulgarian citizenship. If there is any evidence of crime, the case will be referred to the relevant prosecutor’s office.
