“Cellular immunity acquired by vaccination against Covid-19 protects from all variants of coronavirus,” Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev, health advisor at Sofia municipality said for the BNR, citing prestigious medical journals.

“What was being said at the beginning, that anti-body levels drop, that immunity wanes, in actual fact it is cellular immunity, immunological memory that protects. What we now know about Omicron is that a booster shot is needed, which affords 80% protection from hospitalization,” Prof. Kantardzhiev explained. In his words, Omicron has already spread to almost half of the population in Europe and this will build up a robust collective immunity among Europeans, and the coronavirus will evolve to become one of the winter viruses.
