The Omicron coronavirus variant causes a less severe illness than earlier variants, Professor Todor Kantardzhiev, Health Consultant of the Sofia Municipality and former Director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases said for the BNR. Moreover, a small percentage of the people infected with the new variant are admitted to hospital, Todor Kantardzhiev went on to say.
There is strong evidence that the disease caused by the Omicron variant is less severe. That is why the number of hospitalizations is small, which is good news, professor Kantardzhiev added.
