An old mill in the village of Karpachevo, the Municipality of Letnitsa, Central North Bulgaria, was transformed into a training and information center of the Devetashko Plateau. It organizes various seminars, cultural events, trainings, exhibitions, etc. Meanwhile, some of the authentic elements and the spirit of the old mill have been preserved. Thus, the local authorities decided to breathe new life into this unique local landmark.
The building itself has a very interesting history. The old mill was built in the village of Krushuna. It was made completely of travertine, a precious stone that is no longer excavated and used as a construction material. The residents of Karpachevo did not have their own mill and had to go to the nearby village of Krushuna to mill their flour. Gradually, several more mills appeared in Krushuna and the oldest one was used every now and then.
As a result, two entrepreneurs from the village of Karpachevo bought the old mill and took it to their village. They dismantled the mill and marked the stones and all other elements of the old building. They took it to the village of Karpachevo and reassembled it. However, the mill started to use electricity, as there was no running water nearby. The old mill will soon be unveiled as a cultural site.
