Firecrackers, fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices should be used only during the New Year holidays. This is written in a draft ordinance of the Sofia Municipal Council, whose public discussion will end in January. However, from an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio of Georgi Georgiev, chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, it is clear that exceptions are envisaged.

"If you want to celebrate a family or other occasion with fireworks, you must seek permission from the relevant district administration no earlier than 10 days before the date of the event," he said. The fine for violators is expected to be up to BGN 2,000.
