Virtuoso rebec player Rosen Genkov celebrates his 60th birth anniversary

Rebec player Rosen Genkov is among the most remarkable musicians in Bulgaria’s folklore field. He was born in the capital Sofia. He mastered the subtleties of the music from the Shoppe region at a very early age. Rosen Genkov graduated from the National School of Folk Arts in Shiroka Laka, where he made his first attempts to make arrangements to folklore songs, tunes and chain dances.


He was a member of Philip Koutev Folklore Ensemble, Pirin Folk Ensemble and the Ensemble of the Bulgarian National Army. Rosen Genkov has been a concertmaster at the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra for more than three decades now. This year the renowned musician celebrates his 60th birth anniversary. Now, we bring you a concert recording of the piece “Shopsko Nastroenie” to the rendition of the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Orchestra, conductor and arrangement – Dimitar Hristov, music Rosen Genkov.
