Bulgaria’s position on the start of accession negotiations between EU and North Macedonia remains unchanged, Bulgaria’s ambassador to the EU Rumen Alexandrov told the General Affairs Council in Brussels.

Having conveyed deepest condolences for the Macedonian bus accident on Struma motorway and the lives lost, Rumen Alexandrov stressed that North Macedonia does not yet meet the criteria for holding the first intergovernmental conference. He added that in recent months Sofia has proposed a number of options for resolving the pending issues.

“Albania should be appraised on its own merits, and it is ready to make headway on its way to the EU,” Rumen Alexandrov said further.
