Pulmonary hospitals in Bulgaria do not have enough money to conduct screening programs for tuberculosis. According to Dr. Stela Dencheva, Director of the Pulmopnary Hospital in Veliko Tarnovo, these hospitals do not receive enough support by the Ministry of Health either.
Dr. Dencheva warned that this country would face a wave of tuberculosis after the Covid-19 wave. Between July and October, 22 people were diagnosed with tuberculosis in Veliko Tarnovo district, Dr. Dencheva pointed out in an interview for the BNR. Outbreaks of tubercolosis occurred in entire families. Bulgaria will get in a difficult situation, if this country’s authorities fail to take urgent measures and raise public awareness, Dr. Dencheva warned.
