The employees of the Maritsa East Mines are planning to organize a rally in Sofia today. They will protest with the demand that the operation of the power plants of the coal complex be guaranteed at least until 2040.

"We will not allow decisions for the future without the consent of the workers," commented Deyan Dyakov from the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions at TPP Maritsa East 2 .
Thepetition in defense of the coal complex, which will be submitted to the Council of Ministers, has so far been supported by over 105,000 people. Those employed in the industry demand that their main demands be immediately included in the Recovery and Sustainability Plan, as well as that the energy independence of Bulgaria be protected as much as possible.
