The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has handed a note of protest to Vladimir Krstevski, head of mission of the Republic of North Macedonia in Bulgaria.

The protest is over the replacement of a Bulgarian historic monument in the church yard in the village of Klepac near Prilep. The monument dedicated to Veovod Velko Skochivircheto, killed in 1904 and 8 rebels, has been destroyed. The inscriptions, which are in the literary Bulgarian language, have been erased. The surnames on the monument have been replaced.

The Bulgarian side is demanding that Skopje restore the original monument, stressing that the substitution of historical artifacts constitutes an attempt to rewrite history and is a breach of the Friendship, Goodneighbour and Cooperation Treaty of 2017.
