For the first time the National Health Insurance Fund is to finance outpatient care for acute illness, such as Covid-19, Minister of Health Dr. Stoycho Katsarov announced in parliament.

Until now the Fund only covered the cost of home treatment for patients with chronic diseases. In the words of Minister Katsarov, not just the medicines used in the treatment of coronavirus, but all kinds of medical tests will be free of charge. The list of medicines which can be prescribed to patients with Covid-19 will be published in the State Gazette tomorrow.

Minister Katsarov also commented a possible decision on the application of a third dose of vaccine against coronavirus, stating that he was expecting the decision of the Expert Council on Immunoprophylaxis – if the decision is positive, then immediate steps will be taken to apply a third dose.
