Representatives of the sectors affected by the latest anti-epidemic measures protested in front of Bulgaria’s National Assembly. MPs from GERB party, “There is Such a People” party and the coalition “Stand up BG! We are Coming” tried to talk with the protesters, but were soon asked to leave. The people who gathered in front of this country’s Parliament expressed their indignation that night clubs and discotheques have to close down, while restaurants and gaming halls are allowed to operate from 7 am to 23 pm.

Representatives of the Association of Catering Establishments reminded than nearly 50,000 people did not receive financial compensations from the previous lockdown. They called on politicians to return to Parliament and vote at least EUR 500 million to compensate the business for closure of catering establishments. Acccording to the budget update, between EUR 210 million and EUR 215 million is earmarked for this purpose.

The protesters marched from the National Assembly building to the Presidency building and the Ministry of Health. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the order issued by this country's caretaker Minister of Health Stoycho Katsarov and demanded that he either resigned or revoked his order.

Earlier today, Bulgaria's caretaker Minister of Health Stoycho Katsarov announced that despite the protests, the order with the new restrictive measures against the spread of Covid-19 would not be changed.
