Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha and his sister Maria-Louise won the case against Bulgaria at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg regarding the 2009 moratorium on the commercial use of their forestland, though no compensation was awarded. Bulgaria has been found to be in violation of the protection of property on account of the ban on any commercial exploitation of their forestland, as well as of their right to a fair trial. The Court rejected as inadmissible the applicants’ complaints concerning the restitution of the Saragyol and Sitnyakovo estates.

Either side can refer the ruling to the Grand Chamber of the Court within three months.
