If Bulgaria decided to introduce a ceiling of 100,000 euros on subsidies in the next programming period, 705 farmers will receive less support. The purpose of the restriction for large producers is providing more funds to small farms.

According to the analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture, the benefits of this measure will be felt by nearly 60 thousand farmers. In 2019, they received over 66 percent of the total amount of direct payments, while the largest 705 producers in this country received the rest of the subsidies. The ministry has been working on several different options for allocating funds and the possible effects on Bulgarian agriculture.
