Construction workers block Trakia and Hemus motorways over unpaid wages

Road construction workers from the Black Sea Motorways blocked sections of Trakia and Hemus motorways protesting over unpaid wages to the tune of millions of Euros. More than 800 workers continue to protest, as one week after the beginning of their discontent it is not clear yet when the money owed to the company will be paid.

The state owes EUR 18.9 million for repair works at Trakia motorway, including EUR 4 million for salaries. The protesters warn that if the money is not paid by the end of Friday, they will refer the case to the Prosecutor’s Office and the European institutions. Yesterday, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works announced that it was looking for ways to pay the due amounts.
