President Rumen Radev: The budget needs to be updated if we want to address the health and the migrant crisis

“Two crises – the health and the migratory crisis – are going to dominate the agenda in the autumn,” stated President Rumen Radev after the Consultative Council on National Security.

He pointed out that the caretaker government had managed to ensure there was money in the budget to address them. But that for this money to reach the people an update of the budget is necessary. The President expressed regret that there was no consolidation of the parliamentary forces with regard to the budget update.

“If this parliament leaves without updating the budget no money can be allocated for overcoming the health crisis and for reinforcing the border in the face of the danger of migratory pressure. Under the circumstances the caretaker cabinet will have its hands tied,” Rumen Radev said.

Regarding the footage of police brutality during last year’s anti-government protests, President Radev pointed out that the whole chain of responsibility must be traced – from the perpetrators to the administrators and the politicians who allowed or ordered this to happen, or who concealed the violence, and that the culprits must be punished.
