Photo: BGNES-archive

On August 14 and 15, the town of Kalofer, located at the southern foot of the Balkan Mountains, hosts the traditional Lace Festival. The program of the local community center includes a series of demonstrations, video lessons, concerts and exhibitions.

The residents and guests of Kalofer can also enjoy a rich cultural and music program. They can also visit a shuttle lace bazaar, as shuttle lace is among the cultural and historical emblems of the small Bulgarian town. A website created under the project “Future for the Kalofer Shuttle Lace Creative Center” shows the rich archives collected by members of the local community center who have been working on a luxurious catalogue containing 50 emblematic types of traditional lace.
