Dimitar Gardev, MP from the party "There is Such a People" (ITN) has asked this country's Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev whether the caretaker Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov had dual citizenship at the time of his appointment in the caretaker cabinet. Gardev cites media reports claiming that Petkov had Canadian citizenship, BGNES reported.

"I ask the question because of the mandatory provision of Art. 110 of the Constitution that members of the Council of Ministers can only be Bulgarian citizens. If it is established that the caretaker Minister of Economy had another citizenship at the time of his appointment, then this will be contrary to the Constitution," Gardev wrote in the question.

"I renounced my Canadian citizenship before taking up the post. This act was notarized", Kiril Petkov explained in response to a question whether he had dual citizenship when he took office.
