Sofia absorbs almost one third of EU funds for the country

Bulgaria has used over 7 billion euros from the EU budget. This has been the total amount of money under the various EU funds since Bulgaria joined the community.

Dobrich, Svilengrad, Kostinbrod, Primorsko, Byala and Sozopol have attracted more than 2,500 euros per inhabitant of the municipality. Dulovo, Hitrino and Bratya Daskalovi are at bottom of the chart with 105 euros per citizen.

According to the "Information Systems for Management and Monitoring of EC Funds in Bulgaria", Sofia is the leader in attracting money from the EU.

The Bulgarian capital city has absorbed more than 2 billion euros under EU programs. The districts of Plovdiv follow with EUR 500 million and Blagoevgrad with EUR 400 million. Most of the money has been invested in public transportation projects, road and water supply and sewerage infrastructure.
