Doctors from Pirogov have blocked the traffic at Tsar Boris III Blvd. in Sofia. They protest in support of Prof. Asen Baltov, who was removed from the post of director of the medical establishment.

The head of the country's largest emergency hospital has been charged with financial irregularities following an inspection by the National Health Insurance Fund.
Baltov challenged in court the data from the inspections and said that the director of the fund, Petko Salchev, was putting pressure on the hospitals in the country.
Pirogov does not siphon funds, but treats its patients without considering how much it costs the hospital. There is not a single false patient for me. All patients were treated under the Covid-19 clinical pathway. The treatment was performed free of charge without asking a penny from the people, Baltov said.

“Protocols show that there are activities accounted for but not performed on more than 400 persons costing over 1 million Leva (500,000 euro). Most of these persons have been put down as having hepatic cirrhosis and chronic kidney disease,” the Ministry of Health responded.

The National Health Insurance Fund questioned random “patients” who stated they have not been treated at the hospital. Other “patients” turned out to be members of the hospital staff and during the time of their “treatment” were actually working at the medical establishment on a schedule.
