“The Radio and Television Act must be changed. I expect the new parliament to do that,” Minister of Culture in the caretaker cabinet Prof. Velislav Minekov said in an interview for the BNR’s Horizont channel.

“There is no such thing as commercial media in Bulgaria. They all live off money from the state, financing from ministries, municipalities, from foundations they have close links with. In this way the institutions are buying off the media so as to make sure they will have it easy,” Prof. Minekov said.

“The contents of the media ownership and financing register must be reformed so as to be of use to the investigative and regulatory bodies, but also to the media,” Iassen Lazarov from the Institute for Public Environment Development commented on his part for the BNR, regarding media ownership and financing.
