Bulgaria reports first case of Beta coronavirus variant

7 new cases of the Delta coronavirus variant and 1 case of the Beta coronavirus variant have been confirmed in Bulgaria, announced the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases. All samples were taken at Pirogov Hospital for Emergency Medicine in Sofia between June 6 and 14.

2 women and 5 men from Bulgaria’s capital tested positive for the Indian (Delta) coronavirus variant. One of them was admitted to hospital. The rest of the people diagnosed with the Delta variant were placed under quarantine. A man residing in Sofia was diagnosed with the South African (Beta) coronavirus variant. The man has already recovered from the virus.

Bulgaria’s Ministry of Health reminds that the Alpha, Beta and Delta coronavirus variants are more transmissible than the initial variant registered in China. This country’s authorities are monitoring the spread of the coronavirus variants. They are ready to introduce additional anti-epidemic measures, if necessary.
