Lawyers start silent protest

Lawyers in Sofia start a silent protest in front of the Sofia Court House as a sign of disagreement with the discussion on closing 28 regional courts in the country that takes place in the Supreme Judicial Council and the exclusion of the lawyers from the debate on the topic. The new model also envisages the district court to become the main first instance court, while lighter cases would be heard in the district courts, the Legal World website points out.

The protest in Sofia starts at 17:00. There will be protests in Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Blagoevgrad, Ruse, Gabrovo. According to protesters, the change will increase the distance between justice and citizens. Lawyers calls for a broad debate on the topic, "so that the voice of the society could be heard," BNR reporter Silvia Velikova informed.
