The European Commission has appointed Iliyana Tsanova as Deputy Director General of the Directorate-General for Budget (DG BUDG), announced the Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas.
As of September 1, 2021, Tsanova will be responsible for ensuring the governance and risk management of the borrowing and lending and other financial operations and activities undertaken by the Directorate-General for Budget. Iliyana Tsanova has 20 years of outstanding experience in international development and investment banking, a strong management experience, as well as excellent negotiation skills which makes her very suitable to play a key role in managing the financing of the Union’s budgetary support for the EU Recovery Plan in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the EC said. Iliyana Tsanova served as caretaker Deputy Premier of Bulgaria twice - as part of the caretaker government headed by Marin Raykov in 2013 and in the caretaker cabinet headed by Georgi Bliznashki in 2017.
