On June 1 Bulgaria celebrates International Children's Day

The history of the holiday dates back to the World Conference for the Well-Being of Children held in Geneva in 1925, which adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child regardless of race, nationality and religion.

The International Children's Day became an official holiday in Bulgaria after a decree by Tsar Boris III, dating back to 1927.

In 1949, Moscow declared June 1 as International Children's Day, and by 1950 it was already celebrated in 51 countries around the world, most of them part of the former Socialist bloc. After the change of the political system in these countries, the holiday was preserved.

Various events and celebrations for children are organized all over Bulgaria today. In Sofia, the City Garden in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theater and the space in front of the National Palace of Culture are two of the key places for entertainment for the kids.

The Bulgarian National Radio is also part of the holiday program for June 1. The media has invited children to a party in the yard of its building.
