Protests held in Dobrich against "judicial disability" practice

With a procession and songs on the square in the town of Dobrich, people with intellectual disabilities and their relatives once again demanded the abolition of the practice of placement under judicial disability. It is based on a law that has not been changed since 1949.
In Bulgaria, more than 7,000 people are placed under guardianship and by law they cannot make any independent decisions, work, get married, have their money, decide where and with whom to live.
The protesters demand that Bulgaria fulfill its commitments under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which requires that this inhumane form of responsibility be replaced by measures to "support decision-making" by people with disabilities themselves.
