Health authorities: Covid-19 vaccinations certificates issued so far will be reissued

All Covid-19 vaccination certificates issued so far will be reissued. This was said by the Minister of Health Dr. Stoycho Katsarov in an interview on Bulgaria On Air TV. The reissue is required in connection with the uniform format of the document adopted by the EU.

"The grace period in which the old certificates will be valid will be until mid-July," said Minister Katsarov, adding that there is no need to gather many people for reissuance. It is about 400-500 thousand certificates. The best option for people is to receive their new certificates from the place where they were immunized," Katsarov explained.

He pointed out that for the certificate for recovery from Covid-19 is valid for 6 months, while for the vaccination certificate there is no deadline yet, but it will probably be set.

More than 1.3 million people vaccinated against Covid-19 in Bulgaria

393 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 13,872 tests performed. 2.8% of the tests have returned positive result, indicate data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal. The highest number of new infections was reported in Sofia-81, followed by Plovdiv-51, Blagoevgrad-26 and Varna-26.

There are 22,591 active cases of Covid-19 at present. 3,396 patients are being treated in hospital, 375 of them in intensive care units. 36 people have died and 1,192 have recovered in the past 24 hours.

20,860 vaccines have been administered in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of inoculations against Covid-19 to 1,305,575. 526,482 people have already received their second vaccine dose.

Lachezar Tomov: Pandemic subsides because of the large number of people who have had Covid-19

If no new coronavirus variants occur in this country, we will have a trouble-free summer, mathematician Lachezar Tomov said for Horizont channel of the Bulgarian National Radio.

If the number new Covid-19 cases does not increase after the proms, this would mean that a lot of people have already had Covid-19. "We can easily multiply the official figures by 6, or even 7, which makes 2,500,000 people who have had the novel coronavirus. Moreover, 600,000 people have already received their second vaccine dose," added Lachezar Tomov.

The mathematician expressed concern that 60% of Bulgarians refuse to receive Covid-19 vaccines, which is the highest rate in Europe.

Romanian citizens can enter Bulgaria without PCR test or vaccination certificate

As of today, Romanian citizens arriving from Romania can enter Bulgaria through all border crossings without providing a negative PCR or antigen test document, a vaccination certificate or a document for recovery from Covid-19. This was ordered by the Bulgarian Minister of Health with an order from 27 May.

Persons arriving in Bulgaria from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the Maldives, Brazil and countries and territories in Africa are temporarily banned from entering Bulgaria. Exceptions are made for Bulgarian citizens and persons with the status of permanent, long-term or continuous residence and members of their families arriving from the prohibited areas. They are subject to a 10-day quarantine.

The order lists 37 predominantly African countries and territories that do not fall within the scope of the ban on entry.

Restaurateurs in Bulgaria complain about lack of state aid for the sector

The Bulgarian Association of Catering Establishments and the Association of Catering Establishments object to the actions of the caretaker government towards businesses. "Not only is there no desire for future support, but even the current support programmes have been frozen for unclear reasons," the statement reads.

The two unions join the call of the chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association for an urgent convening of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation and the Economic Council, due to the uncertainty over how the economic and social measures introduced due to the pandemic will continue.

Officials from the Ministry of Economy have denied the allegations of the owners of restaurants. There are no suspended measures, they announced, pointing out that the current anti-crisis programmes expire at the end of May.
