Police violence during the anti-government protests last summer is among the reasons behind the dismissal of the Chief Secretary of Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry, Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Ivanov, reads a statement on the Council of Ministers' website.

According to the statement, the caretaker cabinet adopted a decision proposing to President Rumen Radev to issue a decree terminating the powers of Ivaylo Ivanov due to the violation of fundamental working principles at the Interior Ministry. Tension between law enforcement authorities and demonstrators escalated during the protest on September 2 last year. As a result, peaceful protesters and journalists were injured.
