Steady decline in number of new coronavirus cases in Bulgaria

Bulgaria will ban the entry of arrivals from India and some other countries, outgoing Minister of Health Prof. Kostadin Angelov said at the weekly briefing on the current epidemic situation. More than 1 million citizens are currently protected by Covid-19, Angelov said, referring to the total number of recoveries and vaccinated people in this country. The levels of morbidity in Bulgaria are lower than those in neighboring countries, while the measures here are milder, the Minister pointed out and reported that there was a permanent trend in the decline of the number of newly infected. The incidence of coronavirus infection in Bulgaria for the past 14 days was 332 cases per 100,000 of the population. According to this indicator, the country ranks 18th in the EU and in the European Economic Area. In the Balkans, Bulgaria holds 6th place.

No "shopping corridor" for the elderly after May 1

On Saturday, May 1, the requirement for grocery stores to provide a "shopping corridor" for the elderly from 8:30 am to 10:30 am is lifted. This is the order of the Minister of Health signed on April 29. From the beginning of May, sports competitions for all age groups can be held without an audience. An exception is allowed for outdoor sports competitions with the requirement of audience occupying 30% of the seats, keeping a distance of 1.5 m and wearing masks. The restriction for the work of the food and entertainment establishments only between 06:00-23:00 is also lifted. As of today, according to a previous order of the Minister of Health, discos, bars and night bars are open for visits using no more than 50% of their capacity.

Outgoing Health Minister: The decision of the Parliament to negotiate deliveries of Sputnik V vaccine is illegal

Bulgaria's outgoing Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov said at a meeting of the outgoing Council of Ministers that the decision of the National Assembly to negotiate deliveries of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V contradicts Bulgarian legislation and EU health policy. Angelov pointed out that the Russian vaccine has not yet been approved by the European Medicines Agency and without such approval it cannot be used in Bulgaria.The minister expects another 200,000 doses of the Pfizer/Biontech vaccine on May 3. Outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov also said that the issue of supplying the Russian vaccine could be discussed only after EU approval.

Bulgaria registers record number of over 25,000 vaccinations in past day

Bulgaria has registered a total of 1,382  new cases of coronavirus for the day, according to the Unified Information Portal. Positive samples are 9.8% of the 14,082 tests performed. The highest number of new cases is recorded in Sofia - 331, followed by Plovdiv - 127 and Varna - 121. The registered active patients are 50,782. Currently, 7,168 patients are hospitalized as 697 of them are in intensive care. The death toll in the last 24 hours with established coronavirus is 96 people. Cured patients amount to 3,013 people. The administered vaccines in the past day reached a record number - 25,355. With them the number of vaccinations in Bulgaria has increased to 776,254. Of these, 190,535 people have received both doses.

Eid prayers to be held outdoors

Eid prayers will be held outdoors on May 13, 2021 because of the coronavirus epidemic. This is the decision of the Mufti's Council made today. In the mosques, which have conditions, the prayer will be performed in the yard, and where no conditions are present - in stadiums or squares, the Chief Mufti reported. Everything will be coordinated with the local authorities.
