Brussels receives signal over intervention in work of “Anti-Mafia Commission”

European People's Party MEP Andrey Novakov insists that the European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control check the bill proposed by the Democratic Bulgaria party, which interfered in the activities of the Counter-Corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Commission.

Novakov has sent a letter to Monika Hohlmeier, chair of the budgetary control committee, pointing out that the independence and work of the anti-mafia commission are being threatened, GERB party reported. The signal states that the proposed changes would stop ongoing cases and proceedings to seize assets worth more than 1.5 billion euros, and would have a negative impact on the fight against corruption.
