An action group has called on the Bulgarian authorities to grant Bulgarian citizenship to Karen Alexanyan, founder of the “Yard of the Cyrillic Alphabet” museum. The petition has been submitted to the Bulgarian Presidency and this country’s Ministry of Justice.
So far, more than 11,000 signatures have been collected in support of the initiative. "I think that Karen Alexanyan should obtain citizenship on May 24 when Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Slavonic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture," the Chairperson of the action group Iskra Ivanova said for Horizont channel of the Bulgarian National Radio.
Karen Alexanyan has lived in Bulgaria for 25 years. In 2015, he bought a piece of land and created the cultural and historical complex “Yard of the Cyrillic Alphabet” in the town of Pliska with own funds. “Yard of the Cyrillic Alphabet” is the only museum in the world dedicated to the Cyrillic script.
