Bulgaria continues to import significant quantities of fruits and vegetables

Only 26% of the apples and 36% of the tomatoes on the Bulgarian market are produced in this country. 64% were imported from Turkey, Greece and North Macedonia. 55% of the cucumbers sold on the Bulgarian market are produced in this country and 45% are imported. 55% of the potatoes on the local market are also imported, indicates a 2020 report of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets.

73% of the bread and bakery products, 70% of the meat and 69% of the dairy products sold on the Bulgarian market are produced in Bulgaria.
