The installed capacity for production of electricity from renewable energy sources in Bulgaria at the end of last year was approximately 1,800 megawatts. This is about one 5th of all capacities in the country, the executive director of the Electricity System Operator Angelin Tsachev told BNR. Of these, 1,100 megawatts are in photovoltaic plants, and the remaining 700 - in wind farms.

Tsachev also pointed out that the applications filed for 2021 are to connect 114 megawatts, and in the coming years they are expected to increase. It is planned to install another 700 megawatts of wind farms and over 1,600 megawatts of solar parks and another 219 megawatts of biomass capacity by 2024.

All newly built facilities will sell their products on a market basis, Tsachev explained.
