EU Cohesion policy: Bulgaria among best performing countries in terms of spending in 2020

Bulgaria, alongside Sweden, Greece, Cyprus, Finland, Portugal and the Netherlands are the best performers in terms of EU Cohesion policy spending , the European Commission writes.

During the 2014-2020 programming period Bulgaria had 11.7 billion euro at its disposal, of which 10.6 billion prearranged and 6.1 billion spent. 53% of the funding allocated for cohesion policy has been absorbed. The biggest sum, over 2 billion euro, was spent on environmental policies, 1.7 million on improving competitiveness of SMEs. 1.35 billion euro was spent on transport, energy and infrastructure projects. Some of the funding is yet to be paid out and absorbed, investor.bg writes.
