Rila National Park marks its 29th anniversary

Rila National Park was established on February 24, 1992 to protect several ecosystems of national importance. It marks its 29th anniversary with an open-doors day, reported BNR’s correspondent in Blagoevgrad Keti Trencheva.

Rila National Park is the largest national park in Bulgaria spanning an area of 81,000 hectares. Its altitude varies from 800 to 2,925 meters. There are 120 glacial lakes on its territory, including the popular Seven Rila Lakes. Rila National Park includes four reserves. Three of Bulgaria’s largest rivers- Maritsa, Iskar and Mesta spring from this national park. Rila National Park is rich in flora and fauna.
