70 years since establishment of Bulgarian State Ballet School

Today we celebrate 70 years since the founding of the State Ballet School in Sofia (today’s National School of Dance Art). It was opened at the initiative of the founder of professional ballet in Bulgaria, Anastas Petrov, with the assistance of Russian ballet teacher Vladimir Beliy, whose student was the legend of Bulgarian ballet Krassimira Koldamova.

When it opened, the school had only one specialty - classical dance. In 1956 a second specialty was added - Bulgarian Dance. In 2001 the school was renamed National School of Dance Art. A little later, in 2004, a third specialty was opened - modern dance.
