The newly appointed director general of the Bulgarian News Agency BTA, Kiril Valchev, has confirmed that he will submit a request for changes in the Law on BTA in order to ensure free access to the information of the agency. BTA is the only state-owned media for which access is paid.

In an interview with the BNR, Valchev said: "It is absurd for state institutions to need to pay in order to receive information from a state media. It is also absurd to require foreign embassies to pay for BTA information in English in order to understand what is happening in Bulgaria. We also force foreign media to pay in order to be able to understand what is happening in Bulgaria. It is important for us to be presented around the world," said the new director of the agency.

"I prefer a delayed truth to a quick lie," Valchev said, responding to a question about the slight delay of information provided by BTA.
