4 years since inauguration of President Rumen Radev

Today marks 4 years since the inauguration of President Rumen Radev and Vice President Iliana Yotova.

For the past 12 months, the head of state continued to push for a change in the way of governance, stripped the government of confidence and a few months later backed anti-government protests and called for the resignations of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev. The fundamental differences between the President and the ruling party remain insurmountable. "This government has become a symbol of corruption and stagnation," President Radev once said.

The head of state continued consultations on constitutional changes related to the judiciary, as he says they were urgently needed. President Radev has not yet announced whether he would run for a second term in office, BNR’s Mira Stefanova reported.

In Bulgaria, the President is elected directly by the electorate for a term of 5 years and can be re-elected for only one more term.
