A single candidate nominated for director-general of BTA

6 PM on 15 January is the deadline for the nomination of candidates for director-general of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, BTA.

The representatives of the ruling party GERB in the Culture and Media committee of the National Assembly have nominated Kiril Valchev. The parliamentary group of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party are to discuss whether to nominate an alternative candidate on 15 January.

Kiril Valchev is a journalist, anchor of Darik Radio’s current affairs programme “Week” and legal advisor at the BTA. He has the support of the trade unions at the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency. His concept reads that BTA’s information must be made free of charge for the public, which is to take place by amendments to the law on the agency, 24 Chasa newspaper writes.
