Covid-19 situation in Bulgaria improving steadily

The anti-epidemic measures have yielded extremely positive results in Bulgaria, this country’s Minister of Health Professor Kostadin Angelov announced at the regular weekly briefing. In 15 Bulgarian districts, Covid-19 incidence has dropped to 150 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people. The number of coronavirus recoveries is three times higher than the number of new infections. There is also increased confidence in Covid-19 vaccines among medical staff. The tendency of a drop in the number of Covid-19 patients being treated in hospitals continues.
Bulgaria ranks 27th in the European Union in terms of coronavirus incidence and 9th in Covid-19 mortality, Chief State Health Inspector Associate Professor Angel Kunchev announced at the briefing. Bulgaria occupies a position in the middle of the EU ranking in number of the coronavirus tests performed.

17,038 Covid-19 vaccines have so far been administered in Bulgaria. The percentage of inoculations in Bulgaria is similar to those in Finland, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. There have been two inoculations per 1,000 people in Bulgaria, Professor Todor Kantardzhiev, Director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and member of the National Operational Headquarters for Combating Coronavirus said for BNT.
In his view, it is highly likely that the "British strain" of the virus is already in Bulgaria, for which there are indirect data. Professor Kantardzhiev predicts a serious decrease in the number of new coronavirus infections in the summer. In his words, the immunity from Covid-19 vaccines lasts for 7 to 8 months.

Inoculation with Moderna Covid-19 vaccine begins in Bulgaria

Inoculation against Covid-19 with the vaccine of the American company Moderna began on Thursday morning at the University Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology Maichin Dom in Sofia.
A shipment of 2,400 doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Bulgaria on January 13. All of them will be distributed in the capital city. Another 4,000 doses the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine are expected by the end of January and will be delivered in other regions. Inoculation with the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine requires two doses. The second dose is administered 28 days after the first one.

Bulgaria reports 535 new cases of Covid-19

535 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 7,570 tests performed, data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal updated at midnight show. 7.07% of the tests have returned positive. The highest number of infections was registered in Sofia - 116, followed by Plovdiv - 45 and Varna - 41.
3,094 people have recovered and 70 coronavirus patients have died in the past 24 hours. 3,681 patients are currently being treated in hospitals, of them 348 in intensive care. The active Covid-19 cases are 58,425.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 210,416 since the beginning of the pandemic. 20.46% of the people in Bulgaria diagnosed with Covid-19 are aged between 50 and 59.
