Desire of Roma for education for their children grows

The number of Roma students graduating from university has increased 6 times over a decade. The number of high school graduates has doubled, according to a national survey by the Trust for Social Alternative Foundation.

At the webinar "Education and realization in the Roma community" it was reported that 40% of Roma between 21 and 25 years of age have secondary education. However, 1/5 remain uneducated. There are twice as many Roma graduates among those who had attended kindergarten. They have 30 percent higher incomes. Unemployed Roma decreased by 18% compared to 2011. Minister of Social Affairs Denitsa Sacheva commented that because of the Covid-19 crisis the share of Roma children who returned to school was not increasing.
