Prime Minister Boyko Borissov interrupted the Ministry of Health regular briefing on the Ministry of Health's regular briefing on the coronavirus pandemic in the country to comment on statements by President Rumen Radev and consultations convened by him on the date of forthcoming parliamentary elections.
"It is very unclean to ask medical specialists to give a forecast about the development of the pandemic," the prime minister commented on the head of state's hesitation as to whether the vote should take place on the date of March 28, which he had already set. PM Boyko Borissov also asked whether someone dictated to Rumen Radev the idea of postponing the elections at a time when GERB was the first political force, according to sociological agencies. The Prime Minister described the consultations with medical specialists convened by the president as “washing of his hands”, especially since the numbers of infected and dead have been the lowest for a month. "This is not a political dispute, but a neighborhood brawl," Borissov summed up.
Speaking about the pandemic, PM Borissov described the anti-epidemic measures as "the mildest to the people's psyche" and at the same time "enabling the economy to work well and cover the huge costs of the coronavirus crisis."
According to the Minister of Health Prof. Kostadin Angelov, the measures have led to extremely positive data and in 3 districts - Kardzhali, Razgrad and Gabrovo, the number of coronavirus patients is now below 120 per 100 thousand people.
The people who recovered in the past 24 hours are twice as many as the new cases, the minister said. The number of occupied beds in hospitals for patients with Covid-19 in a milder condition is 32%, and for those admitted in intensive care wards– the capacity filled is 47%. 2,833 medics currently have coronavirus infection out of a total of 9,045 since the beginning of the epidemic.
Bulgaria ranks 24th in terms of morbidity in the EU and third in terms of mortality, chief health inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev has reported.
7,900 people have already been vaccinated against coronavirus, the chairman of the National Vaccination Task Force Prof. Krassimir Gigov said. So far there have been no data on side effects.
