For yet another year, the most preferred names for newborns in Bulgaria in 2020 are Alexander and Victoria, data from the National Statistical Institute shows.

Among the newborn boys, along with the traditional names Georgi, Dimitar, Ivan and Nikola, names uncharacteristic of the Bulgarian tradition, such as Martin, Daniel and Victor, predominate. Names of Bulgarian rulers such as Boris, Kaloyan, Simeon, Samuil and others are becoming more and more common.

The top three of the most common names for girls - Victoria, Maria and Nicole, has remained unchanged for more than five years, and in 2020 immediately after them come the names Sofia and Raya.

In general, among the population of Bulgaria the most common female name is Maria, and the most popular male name is Georgi.

The most popular surnames for 2020 are Ivanov/Ivanova, Georgiev/Georgieva and Dimitrov/Dimitrova.
