Awards and distinctions of pop singer Emil Dimitrov, loved by several generations of Bulgarians, will be displayed in his hometown of Pleven on December 23 on occassion of his 80th birth anniversary. In 1960, Dimitrov made his debut with his author’ssong "Harlequin", accompanied on accordion which was the beginning of his long and successful career as a pop singer, musician and composer. His song "My Country, My Bulgaria" is among the most beloved Bulgarian music hits. Although Bulgaria was behind the Iron Curtain at that time, Emil Dimitrov toured almost all European countries, and reaped his greatest success in France and in the former USSR.Dimitrov met Charles Aznavour and Dalida in France. His song "My Country, My Bulgaria" was recorded in French, German, Italian and Spanish. Emil Dimitrov passed away in 2005, bequeathing us a rich music repertoire of over 400 pieces.
