Bulgaria marks 70 years since establishment of Cyril and Methodius State Order

Навършват се 70 години от учредяването на Държавното отличие "Кирил и Методий"

На днешната дата, през 1950г., Президиумът на Народното събрание учредява ордена "Кирил и Методий" като държавна награда с три степени. Отличието е приемник на ордена "Св. св. равноапостоли Кирил и Методий", учреден с рескрипт на цар Фердинанд от 18 май 1909 г. по случай обявяването на независимостта на България. Орден "Кирил и Методий" се присъжда на български и чуждестранни граждани със заслуги в областта на науката, културата и образованието. Връчва се до 21 март 1991 г., когато е отменен от VII Велико народно събрание. На 29 май 2003 г. със Закона за ордените и медалите е приет е учреден орден "Св. св. Кирил и Методий", като приемник на ордените "Св. св. равноапостоли Кирил и Методий" и на "Кирил и Методий".

70 years have passed since the establishment of the State Award "Cyril and Methodius"
On this date in 1950, the Presidium of the Bulgarian National Assembly established the Order of Cyril and Methodius as a state award with three degrees. The award is the successor of the Order of the Equal to the Apostles St. Cyril and St. Methodius, established by Tsar Ferdinand on May 18, 1909 on the occasion of the declaration of Bulgaria's independence. 
The Order of Cyril and Methodius is awarded to Bulgarian and foreign citizens with significant merits in the field of science, culture and education. 
It was bestowed until March 21, 1991, when it was abolished by the VII Grand National Assembly. On May 29, 2003, with the Law on Orders and Medals, the Order of St. Cyril and St. Methodius was adopted, as a successor to the Order of the Equal to the Apostles St. Cyril and St. Methodius and to the order of Cyril and Methodius.
